I was accepted by George Washington University for the Political Communication program but added a second major -- Art History -- thanks to a high-school AP class in Art History with an inspiring teacher. I combined my passion for art with my freelance writing experience to complete a Spring 2022 internship with the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and a Fall 2022 internship with the Phillips Collection that was extended to Spring 2023. I also wrote a senior honors art history thesis about queer history and memory reconstruction in 1990s photography and film. In addition, I've taken three ASL classes and have hosted the Needle Drop radio show on GW's campus radio station, focusing on great movie soundtracks. I spent two weeks in Paris during the Spring Semester for an International Media Seminar.I believe in the power of words. I was the editor of my high-school newspaper during my senior year and prepared for that by doing a summer-long internship at the Delaware Business Times (three political-coverage clips below). I graduated from the KYW Newstudies program in Fall 2018 with an award for Outstanding Achievement (link below) and I delivered a TEDx talk in June 2019 on the topic, Social Media Has a Cockroach Problem (link below). My dream is to help raise the visibility of a great art museum, using skills I've learned at GW. This could be producing podcasts and videos, writing press releases, or making exhibits more accessible and interesting. At my highest value, I deliver passionate leadership. In my after-school activities, I’ve found that I can mobilize a group and execute quickly and effectively, demonstrating passion and engagement. When put in a leadership position, I like to delegate to the person who is best suited for the task although I have to grudgingly admit that I like to take the most important task for myself (mainly because I feel that’s the best way to make sure it gets done).I'd love to connect with current and future Colonials, GW alums, established journalists, and museum leaders and staff.

Reporter/ResearcherDelaware Business Times May 2019 - Jun 2020Wilmington, Delaware,I earned this role by writing stories during my junior year in high school on (1) VP Joe Biden’s “announcement” at a University of Delaware event that he anticipated entering the 2020 presidential race and (2) a Junior Achievement competition between Delaware schools. In addition to writing breaking-news stories (including the one about Joe Biden announcing his presidential run), news briefs, congressional position statements, obituaries, and brief profiles of 50 of Delaware’s fastest-growing companies. I created a data-based package that broke out how much Delawareans donated to the various presidential candidates. I've written stories on this for 2Q 2019 and 3Q 2019, and a profile of national transgender activist Sarah McBridge after she announced she was running for the Delaware State Senate.I also wrote profiles of five students who had bypassed college in favor of trade jobs for DBT's STUFF workforce development publication. The profiles were cited by judges in giving the publication the Gold Award in the 2021 Association of Area Business Publications competition.
