Expert witness for Speech and Language Therapy related to Complex Communication and Dysphagia, including: AAC, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Multi-sensory impairment, Brain Injury and Neurology related quantum and liability legal cases.

Providing Specialist communication & Dysphagia support to individuals with ALD, PMLD, Brain Injury, Autism and progressive conditions helping individuals achieve their potential. Assessing learners to ascertain the most appropriate AAC, then programming devices and helping individuals to use their device functionally for communication in and outside of the college.Supporting outreach services and smaller local provisions.

Working as the Dysphagia lead in College supporting young adults (aged 16-25) with learning disabilities, Brain Injuries, and progressive conditions.As part of this role I have developed and set-up a fully accountable Dysphagia service. I have written policies, overhauled the training packages and developed procedures that previously didn’t exist. I support other Dysphagia trained SLTs with their most complex cases and have also supervised SLTs through post-basic Dysphagia training. I work closely with my colleagues in nursing, OT, physio and catering to ensure that the Dysphagia needs of our complex young people are supported and they are able to have safe and enjoyable mealtimes while they are here with us. Short term assignment covering mat leave. Clearing the waiting lists & assisting the team in meeting their targets. Working with patients with LD predominantly supporting them with communication & Dysphagia.

Working to support adults with mental health, forensic, learning disability, brain injury, neuropsychiatry & end of life needs within a secure setting. These patients had complex Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and/or dysphagia (eating & drinking) needs.My role involved: -Initial screening of new admissions as well as enhanced communication assessment- Dysphagia and mealtime assessments- Otoscopy and pure tone audiometry assessment (hearing screen clinics). - Delivering therapy according to patient needs on a 1:1, group or indirect basis.- Liaising directly with the multidisciplinary team- creating communication guides and visual aids- delivering training packages- writing reports- attending meetings- setting up the new AAC assessment pathway & trialling various AAC software & hardware- completing complex AAC Assessements

Part Time Speech Therapy Groups for children and young adults with Down Sydrome.- Mainly working on functional & social communication needs

Working to support adults with learning disability in the community with their complex Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and/or dysphagia (eating & drinking) needs.My role involved:-Assessment & management of both communication & Dysphagia in a Learning Disability population.-Creating communication interventions including; objects of reference, signing, visual timetables and communication passports. -Updating, redesigning and delivering staff training in communication (e.g – TC workshop, signing, intro to communication) & Dysphagia-Involvement in multi-disciplinary meetings; liaising with a range of professionals. -Working with clients with challenging behavior – assisting in creating behavior management plans-Involvement in Mental Capacity Act Assessments - jointly with other professionals.-Student Supervision-Caseload management / working with limited resources/staff-Complettion of NQP competencies-Progression from band 5 to 6 (Southern Health formerly Ridgeway Partnership)

Clinical Placements:Paediatric:-Community clinics – for a range of communication work e.g stammering, speech disorders/delay & language based difficulties.-Pre-school language Groups-MDT complex communication clinics –– For potential Autism Diagnosis-Mainstream schoolsAdult-Community Hospital - stroke rehabilitation, dysphagia and communication assessments on ward level-Rehabilitation Centre for neurological disorders – Progressive conditions & Stroke-Community based outreach – for clients with progressive conditions
