PhD student within the EPSRC-SFI lifETIME CDT. Developing human-relevant models of health and disease for fundamental research and drug discovery. Better predicting human biology to address the burden of currently incurable diseases, such as osteoarthritis.Project focuses on control of microenvironmental cues presented to a microscale model of the joint. This includes mechanical stimuli and topographical characteristics of extracellular matrix components, manipulated through magnetic nanoparticles. This 'on-a-chip' model will help understand how the cellular microenvironment modulates the pathogenesis and development of muscoskeletal degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis which, despite being a prominent contributor to global disability, is currently untreatable.
