About Abigail A. Advincula, Phd
Thank you for visiting my LinkedIn profile! My name is Abby, and I am committed to learning about the world and working with others to provide solutions to important and relevant problems. I am a graduate student in the Materials Science School at the Georgia Institute of Technology with the intent of pursuing a PhD. I have research experience in both industrial and academic labs. In my graduate work, I design and synthesize conjugated semiconductor polymers for use in plastic solar cells or, more technically, organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Our team focuses on the materials structure-property-processing relationship, and we work with a large number of collaborators for device design and characterization. I also enjoy teaching and have worked as a TA for four semesters in various materials science classes. I get excited showing others why materials science is important and relevant in our every day lives. My goal is to be able to explain any materials science concept to a variety of audiences in a manner which is memorable and clear. Attached below are my CV, a written piece about my experience working as a TA, and my StrengthsFinder results. Check them out! I can be contacted on here or by my email at abigail@gatech.edu.

R&D Intern Supporting Personal Care
I developed a standard formulation procedure for testing the effects of various carbomer thickeners using rheology, viscosity measurements, and clarity measurements. I developed a procedure for quickly and accurately making shampoo and body wash samples and created a system to keep track of the different samples. Internship concluded with an oral presentation to the R&D division.
R&D Intern
Worked one-on-one with a project manager to develop a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Langmuir-Blodgett instrument for use in the stability analysis of surfactant systems. Development of the SOP entailed extensive literature searches, experiment runs using the Langmuir-Blodgett trough, and data processing using Origin. I presented two talks to introduce the theory and usage of the machine to the technical community of Lubrizol (group of 20+ people). Additionally, I conducted hands on training with different employees by teaching them how to operate the machine. The SOP served as vital tool in improving the research capabilities of the technical community to predict stability of soap systems more cheaply and efficiently.
