Advised clients in the mining, oil & gas, commercial and transportation sectors, on areas of importance to capital projects, such as: cost estimation, budget, procurement, scope creep, project controls, scheduling, roles and responsibilities, and organizational structure.Provided a nuanced approach to client investigations and analysis that culminated in change management and performance improvement recommendations that go beyond industry best practice in project management. Indicative project descriptions include:• Project Audit and Framework Review of capital projects ($300 million) - Supported the development of improvements in project governance and management processes, project controls (especially estimating and cost control), and supply chain management for an Alberta-based client that had recently expanded its services to major project construction.• Organizational Structure Review of capital project program ($3 billion) - Improved the governance mechanisms and organizational structure of a major oil and gas company’s capital project program by facilitating the development of organizational structures, and roles and responsibilities that supported effective operation of the program.• CAPEX Review of mine site concentrator ($350 million) - Identified costs incurred to-date, potential construction risk and price escalation, concerning the CAPEX estimate for a new concentrator. The review included: conducting CAPEX benchmarking, escalation calculations and construction market research, and reviewing contingency models, vendor quotes, value engineering, and work- breakdown-structure iterations.

As part of the Said Business School’s MBA Strategic Consulting Project, acted as sole consultant on behalf of African Entrepreneur Collective to Great Lakes Energy, a Rwandan solar power design-build engineering firm (rev: $1M USD). Built and implemented an operations tool to support communication, quality and continuous improvement - reduced procedural errors by approx. 30% and project duration by approx. 10%

Worked with owners, engineers, suppliers and contractors throughout design and construction, to reduce the energy consumption of buildings and improve future occupants health. LEED and BOMA BESt are two client facing tools that I used to document this objective. Experience was gained across a range of facilities canvassing education, government, and commercial buildings. Highlights include the following successes with both external clients and internal stakeholders.External Clients• Led the Buildings Group in delivering energy saving analyses and recommendations to clients. • Directed government, architects, engineers, suppliers and school boards through a group design process. Reduced project energy and water metering costs by 30% while increasing metering points by 60%Internal Stakeholders• Initiated a national collaboration on technical protocols by leveraging relationships with company-wide program leads. Reduced estimate variations from 20% to less than 1%• First in the province of Manitoba to enter an emerging consulting market, worth revenues of approx. $120M/yr and 25% growth/yr in North America.

Completed the mechanical design and contract administration, of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, and fire protection systems, for buildings projects ranging from schools to healthcare facilities and office renovations. Highlights in value added to the client include:• Initiated and developed a design framework that addressed engineers’ and architects’ coordination problems, to reduce labour hours by up to 30%. Subsequently presented at the corporate level for company-wide adoption• Designed novel heating and ventilation systems which reduced the client’s energy costs by approx. 45%, saving $6M over the life of the system• Improved the quality and financial performance of engineering consulting work through internal audits of Stantec's buildings projects - worth a total annual revenue of approx. $3M

Highlights include:• Led clients, engineers and architects to deliver New Zealand’s first building built to comprehensive green building standards. Presented the lessons learnt at New Zealand’s premier green building conference (audience approx. 400).• Collaborated with international experts to write performance metrics for New Zealand’s largest solar power installation.
