Investigated the mass-budget changes for all Alaskan glaciers through the 21st century and their contribution to sea level rise. My research included improving regional and global numerical glacier models using various gridded down-scaled climate products and glacier mass-balance observations for Alaska and Western Canada. Fieldwork consisted of deploying automated weather stations to investigate meteorological conditions that govern glacier mass changes.Tasks Included:• Model the volume changes for all Alaska glaciers • Estimate Alaskan glacier contribution to sea-level rise using 14 different GCMs• Build and deploy automated weather stations • Network automated weather stations using radio telemetry• Compile glacier data from various published and unpublished sources for Alaska• Attained and processed various gridded climate data sets and GCM outputs

My M.Sc. thesis centered on measuring and modeling the mass balance of the Collier Glacier in the Oregon Cascades. I used snow and ice measurements along with an automated weather station I deployed on the glacier as input data for a surface energy balance model that simulates glacier ablation. Furthermore, I compared the surface energy balance model to simpler methods (temperature index models) to investigate how beneficial the more complex approaches are to simulating glacier surface ablation.Tasks Included:• Lead glacier field expeditions to measure snow and ice during winter and summer months• Built and deployed automated weather stations• Implemented a surface energy balance model written in FORTRAN• Model comparisons of various complexities
