I empower people through their accent! I coach clients with personal, professional, or aesthetic accent goals in English. I also help English Teachers become Accent Coaches like me!

I specialize in accent softening/reduction/elimination and dialect coaching for speakers of English as a second language. I work with regular people looking for better opportunities in their work or social life, as well as people who use their voice professionally.I love accents, and everyone has a beautiful idiolect (personal speech habits)! However, I know that sometimes 'accents speak louder than words'. If a person wants to change how they sound, I will work with them to train them in three ways. We will train the ear to hear the target sounds, the brain to figure out what to change, and the muscles in the mouth to respond accurately and fluidly to get the accent they want!I also work with performers (stage/screen actors, singers, and broadcasters on radio/TV/podcasts) on specific preparation for a casting, or in gaining another accent to be used for performance in the future. In this case, I teach performers the strategies to learn any accent, first applied to speaking like a (non-regional specific) American. These skills and strategies can be used in analyzing and producing a variety of accents for the stage, screen, or microphone!

ESP (English for Specialized Purposes) and EAP (English for Academic Purposes) for mostly Spanish-speaking students in scientific research and advanced polytechnic studies. Classes taught include Test preparation (TOEFL/IELTS), Science Communication, and Science Research Writing.

Procure and produce reading passages and questions for use on large-scale, high-stakes standardized tests of English-language proficiency. Identify academic texts that are suitable for testing the reading comprehension skills of college applicants whose native language is not English from a variety of disciplines. Succinctly and accurately summarize background information and explain technical terminology to provide vocabulary glossing.

Mentor 2-10 MATESOL fieldwork students per academic semester. Observe each student teaching 3 classes, with 3 follow up debrief sessions. Develop a supportive relationship with the students, offering guidance and advice on ESL pedagogy. Prepare feedback to the MATESOL department in order to track the students’ progress and provide a bridge between theory and practice. Assess and grade each student’s growth in teaching over the course of the semester.

Prepare and teach international ESL students at various levels in Speaking/Listening, Grammar, and Reading/Writing classes 5 days a week. Teach workshops and elective classes as needed. Create and give weekly assessments. Report daily student progress feedback online. Provide teacher training as needed.

Provide legal and immigration information to potential students and applicants. Keep international student SEVIS records up to date. Prepare and execute new student testing, orientation, and placement. Provide on-going support to past and current students on academic and acculturation matters. Support instructors by administering grading software.

Prepare and teach a variety of immigrants ESL at various levels according to Pennsylvania Common Core Adult Career and College Readiness Standards. Teach US Civics and history to prepare newcomers for their citizenship exam and interview.

Prepare and teach: TOEFL EAP to 15 students for 15 hrs/wk., Advanced General English to 15 students for 15 hrs/wk, Pre-TOEFL class to 15 students for 3 hrs/wk., and drop-in writing elective for 1.5 hrs week for 20-40 students. Prepare a diverse international student body using Kaplan methods. Perform assessments and report weekly feedback on student progress. Substitute as needed.

ESL instruction tailored to immigrant parents of Philadelphia school children. Provide Philadelphia public school parents with evidence-based knowledge, skills and resources to support their children’s education and increase student achievement. Improve collaboration between schools and families through school garden and other community-school activities.

Plan and execute hands-on, interactive 2-day orientation sessions for 40 new volunteer ESL educators 4 times per year. Assess needs of instructors to deliver practical, ongoing workshops to support current ESL teachers using industry best practices. Committee member for annual NSC Cultural Conference.

Teaching, testing and evaluating English Language classes of intermediate to advanced levels, specializing in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) prep classes. Co-founded the ESL center in the Palestinian refugee camp. Responsible for all aspects related to ESL Education, including but not limited to: sourcing funding, training volunteer teachers, selecting learning materials, coordinating classroom curricula and organizing field trips.
