Dr. Fon-Achu received his medical doctorate degree from the Ebonyi State University College of Medicine, Nigeria. He went on to complete a one year interdisciplinary medical internship at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. This qualified him for a professional license to practice medicine in any state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. After completing this internship, he then pursued and completed a Master of Public Health degree majoring in Maternal & Child Health at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health (UMNSPH), USA. During his period at UMNSPH, he received the highly coveted SPH Alumni Scholarship and Robert ten Bensel Scholarship, both in recognition of his academic excellence and outstanding potential to lead and contribute to the field of Maternal and Child Health. He also was approved to serve in the University Student Senate as a member of the Senate Committee on Student Affairs (SCSA). He is interested in all aspects of improving the health and well-being of vulnerable women, girls, boys, and children. This can be those affected by wars who are refugees or internally displaced and those resident in communities with high prevalence of infectious diseases and harmful health practices. He currently works as a primary health care physician for equalasone.org providing essential health services to the less privileged in south eastern Nigeria.Dr Fon-Achu is interested in health systems research and well as cardiovascular/clinical research. He is interested in testing new health systems and health care delivery methods as well as effectively monitoring and evaluating those already existing to enhance appropriate modifications where necessary. His research interest also incorporates the life course perspective into the field of cardiovascular disease. He is specifically interested in the primordial prevention of risk factors for congenital heart disease, preeclampsia, and heart diseases in pregnancy. Dr. Fon-Achu aspires to become a cardiologist, and a physician-scientist in cardio-obstetrics and clinical trials.
