Practicing terrestrial biology for Stantec, assisting in both vegetation and wildlife disciplines. I collect, interpret and report on field data to provide support to clients on regulatory compliance with Acts, regulations, guidelines and standards. For vegetation work, I identify plant species for purpose of ecosite classification, survey for rare plants, use GIS software to map vegetation features, evaluate and classify wetlands according to the Alberta Wetland Classification System (AWCS), and identify noxious and prohibited noxious weed species. I have prepared and developed wetland assessment forms such as Code of Practice notifications, WAIF’s, WAIR’s and ABWRET. For wildlife work, I complete surveys to collect data on migratory birds (songbirds and raptors), amphibians, snakes, and mammals. I have completed migratory bird nest sweeps, nocturnal and diurnal amphibian surveys, amphibian salvages, sharp-tailed grouse lek surveys, wandering garter snake surveys and bear den surveys. I have also assisted with installation of data collection devices such as audio recording units (ARU’s) and remote wildlife cameras.

My responsibilities included undertaking fieldwork to collect data on forest health, renewal and inventory. Established and monitored research plots, compiled tree planting assessments, collected diameter, height and species data and completed free to grow silviculture surveys. Also responsible for conducting Dutch Elm Disease surveys, interacting with homeowners and providing information regarding forest health concerns. This position required extensive travel, strenuous work in remote field settings, strong plant identification skills, as well as proficiency with technical equipment such as GPS, compasses, radios, vertex clinometers and ATV's.

Planned, organized and implemented riparian forest restoration activities including invasive species removal, tree planting and research concerning European buckthorn. Supervised a four person Green Team, coordinated with relevant stakeholders and compiled a year end technical report.

Co-managed a green initiative program involving composting organic material into a usable garden fertilizer. I was responsible for tracking waste generation amounts, recording daily temperature data, maintaining compost machinery and ensuring decomposition reactions were occurring. I was also responsible for site maintenance work and event/festival set-up and take down.
