Worked on three major projects.1. INFORM (Improving Nursing Home Care through Feedback on PerfoRMance) is a pragmatic intervention that used the feed back of performance data to assist managers with goal setting and strategies to increase the inclusion of health care aides within long-term care facilities. My focus was on completing a process evaluation that focused on how the intervention was delivered, received, and enacted by participants, including barriers and facilitators that they experienced. I lead the collection and analysis of the qualitative data, which included focus groups, interviews, and document analysis. Now that we have analyzed the data, we are developing and testing an evidence-based tool for change that will allow the intervention to be spread and scaled-up in long-term care facilities with minimal researcher involvement. 2. SCOPE (Safer Care for Older Persons in residential Environments) is a pragmatic intervention that aims to increase the involvement of health care aides by teaching them the skills needed to achieve goals related to improving the care of long-term care residents. I am leading the qualitative process evaluation arm, which involves developing measures, collecting and analyzing data, and training team members. This includes applying several qualitative methods, such as participant observations, document analysis, and running interviews and focus groups.3. SALTY (Seniors Adding Life To Years) is a national research project that aims to improve the care of older adults who are near end of life and living in long-term care facilities. Through this project we aim to identify the most burdensome end of life symptoms and inappropriate practices experienced by nursing home residents. I proposed and am currently implementing the qualitative action project method to explore the burdensome end of life symptoms and inappropriate practices experienced by residents.

Edmonton, Alberta

I worked on two projects with the Alberta Centre for Child, Family, and Community Research.Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Knowledge Mobilization and Capacity Development project: I conducted interviews with over 100 government stakeholders, policymakers, and data managers to determine the state of data collection, management, and sharing related to individuals with FASD within the Government of Alberta ministries. The final report developed a data framework and summarized the state of data on individuals with FASD, including recommendations for improving processes related to collecting, analyzing, and sharing data. Child and Youth Data Lab: This project explored the experiences of Albertan children and youth using longitudinal administrative data that had been link across five key ministries (Health, Justice and Solicitor General, Education, Advanced Education, and Human Services). My work centered on validating data linkages and analyzing data on Income Support clients, Income Support Learners, and individuals who were identified as high service users. Results were summarized in presentations and reports to help inform government policy.

I was the research coordinator for the Inclusive Campus project at UBC, which is an international consortium that aimed to increase the inclusion of people with disabilities in universities and in the workforce. There were two main projects that I was involved with. The first, which was funded by the UBC Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund, explored the challenges, barriers, and facilitators that students with disabilities experienced at the university through interviews and focus groups. Results informed the development of several resources to help students with disabilities, such as workshops and personalized accessibility plans. The second project, which emerged from our previous work, was a Canadian Institutes of Health Research funded qualitative project that aimed to further our understanding of the experiences of students and clinicians with disabilities. Over the course of a year, I conducted three interviews with each participant using a grounded theory approach. I have begun published the results of this project.

Developed a quantitative research project that examined influences on gay, lesbian, and bisexual adolescents’ decision to disclose their sexual identity to their parents.

Collaborated with a team of researchers examining men's health using data from the Sex and Love project, supported by the Hunter College Center for HIV/AIDS Education Studies and Training. While working with the team I proposed and implemented various quantitative research projects that led to the publication of four peer reviewed academic articles on community, social networks, drug use, and sexual risk-taking.

Facilitated a project that taught students the collection and analysis of data, which was supported by a grant from The University of British Columbia. Our research focused on housing discrimination within the lower mainland. The manuscript was published in a peer reviewed academic journal and it received media attention from The Globe and Mail and other media sources.

Audited the collection and analysis of qualitative data that explored adolescent career development among aboriginal families living in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver. We published a peer reviewed academic article that received the Career Development Quarterly article of the year award.
