It was identified by the D'Angelo lab that nuclear pore complex (NPC) formation is associated with cancer. During my internship in the lab, we are researching the expression of these NPC genes. I find myself using melanoma cells transformed with specific siRNAs, to extract RNA and synthesize cDNA to perform Quantitative Real-Time PCR analysis to evaluate the knockdown of the genes of interest.

As a counselor/mentor for the Minaret Academy Alumni Club (MAAC), I established relationships with middle school and high school students and gave provided them with guidance and support as well as equipping them with all the necessary knowledge and skills they will need in their future.

As recruitment coordinator for the Cope Health Scholars program at Kaiser Permanente of Irvine, I assisted scholar applicants throughout the process of becoming a scholar. I found myself presenting at multiple schools and meeting with individuals who are interested in the program. I also assisted in grading applications, interviewing applicants, managing clearance appointments, and occasionally in training, grading exams, and grading practicals.

As a Cope Health Scholar, I found myself working alongside nurses, doctors, technicians, and other healthcare professionals throughout the different departments in the hospital. I was trained to re-position patients, discharge patients, ambulate patients, feed patients, bath patients, discharge patients, take vitals, and more.
