I am originally a self-taught developer with professional experience in a variety of programming languages and technologies. I am always the first person to volunteer to learn something new in order to utilize the best tool for the job. I believe my unique background and non-traditional entry into software development is a strength.I joined the US Army as an Infantryman at the age of 20. I spent over 4 years as active duty including 2 tours in Iraq; the first being 12 months long while the second lasting nearly 15 months. I rose to the rank of Sergeant and led a fireteam for the entirety of my second deployment. Following my time in the active-duty Army, my family and I moved back to Tennessee where I worked as a security guard manager while attending school majoring in Physics. While at university, I was hired at a company as technical support and began learning software development to improve our technical support tools. The manager of R&D mentored me while I self-taught my first scripting language, PHP. Within a year, I was promoted to junior developer and have been a full-time software developer ever since. I have worked on many projects from large Ruby on Rails communications platforms; to a macOS recording app for courtroom preliminary hearings; to designing, building, and shipping an iOS and Android mobile game as a small, two person company. On my own, I've taken courses on machine learning and built and trained several models. There is never a moment when I'm not actively working on my own programming or art project; I love to be busy and work on interesting problems.
