Formulated the participation and advocacy strategies for BP Biofuels in the Americas. Serve as an external spokesman for BP Biofuels before political, trade and technical audiences.• Served as member of the start-up team for BP Biofuels organization, creating the initial business strategy and establishing BP as the credible voice in the Petroleum Industry on concerning Biofuels issues. Held Global responsibility for identification of potential legal, commercial and technical obstacles to the marketing of biobutanol and actions required to remove those obstacles.• Led the formulation of the Brazil strategy which has been implemented in a $1bn multi-year investment program, including BP’s first ever biofuel production in September 2008.• Led the team developing the first ever California Multimedia study of a new biofuel and completed Tier I and Tier II of the California EPA process.• Developed the financial model quantifying $3 billion/year of value for incorporation of biobutanol into the gasoline pool by potential customers (wholesale gasoline refiner/marketers) in the US and Europe.

Managed a staff of three professionals. Differentiated fuels in the U.S. covering the supply chain, regulatory constraints, quality considerations and economic evaluation. Identified US product development needs. Translated technology program outputs into retail product claims for differentiated products.• Created this role and quickly developed relationships to allow the newly formulated US FMG team to exercise its delegations in a reorganized Retail SPU.• Key participant in 2004 US Heavy Duty Diesel strategy study.• Led creation of the first US regional plans for retail diesel and commercial diesel.

Served as GFT interface to the Product Strategy Team. Participated in OEM and IP Strategy team activities. Resourced to GFT on Refining, West Coast and Economic issues.• Served as fuel policy and refining advisor to the BP-DuPont task force which selected biobutanol as a commercialization target. This ultimately resulted in the formation of Butamax Advanced Biofuels, LLC.• Issued a white paper on light-duty diesel for the US market which formed the foundation of the retail strategy team’s study of this opportunity. • Contributed to the formation of the joint GFT/Refining Technology IP Strategy Team and serve as leader for the Components opportunity team.

Led the weekly formulation of the short-term operating plan for a 265kbd refinery in Southern California and communication of the plan to the refinery. Coordinated the operations plan with other ARCO/BP west coast businesses. Established the mechanisms for transfer pricing of intermediates within the ARCO/BP West Coast refining system. Evaluated financial impacts of production outages. Coordinated timing of planned outages with Operations and Maintenance functions to minimize economic and supply impacts.

Identified and developed opportunities for new business development, market growth and revenue improvement through innovative utilization of resources. Provide briefings to senior management and training and collaborative assistance to junior members of technical staff. Led a team which reduced the capital cost for phasing out MTBE at the ARCO Los Angeles Refinery from $150 Million to $40 Million through identification of commercial solutions. Initiated a $40 Million project to recover propylene from refinery waste streams, yielding $10 Million per year in revenues and environmental benefits. The incremental propylene production enabled the creation of a World-Scale polypropylene business at the ARCO Los Angeles Refinery – the first on the U.S West Coast. Led a cross-functional team that developed an opportunity to lower refinery crude costs by $75 Million per year by leveraging underutilized assets. Plan put on hold due to the merger with BP. Obtained $100 Million in funding for expansion of ARCO's LA Refinery, increasing production while lowering operating costs. This has yielded $30 Million/year in increased income.
