Following my highly productive work as marine mechanic, I was promoted to Lead Test Engineer. I plan and supervise the draining, depressurizing, and de-energizing various submarine systems so they are safe for shipyard repairs. Some of the systems and tests that I manage include Hydro, Pressure, Vacuum, Nominal Operational, and Air Blast tests of Sea Water, Air 0-4500 PSIG, refrigeration, hydraulic, water-tight integrity, computer, and electric systems tests to functional specifications. My work on critical parts of a nuclear submarine requires me to have a Top Secret security clearance. Recently I was placed in charge and successfully accomplished the most complicated tests (Deep Dive Test) Puget Sound Naval Shipyard has written. Supervising over 30 employees to inspect over 4,000 QA data points during a 2 week underway.

Returning to marine machinery, I tested, analyzed, disassembled, and repaired the components of damaged marine main propulsion engines, their auxiliary subsystems, and aircraft launching and arresting systems.

Applying a lot of the knowledge that I learned in the Navy, I installed, maintained, diagnosed, and repaired industrial and residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units. By reading and interpreting blueprints and various diagrams, I installed compressors, evaporators, motors, ducts, piping, and various electrical and mechanical controls.Selected Projects:♦ Serviced over 80 different refrigeration and cooling systems with each having eight to ten subsystems

By following and working closely with a Journeyman Plumber, I learned and completed residential and commercial plumbing standard construction, repair, safety practices, and plumbing, water flow and drainage systems, heating, and sewage systems installation and repair. After becoming proficient in standard plumbing methods, I assisted in planning and laying out, assembling, installing, and repairing various plumbing, water flow and drainage systems, heating, and sewage systems. I also constructed various high- and low-pressure pipe joints, threading, brazing, and on-site soldering. Selected Achievements:♦ Achieved 8,000 hours toward Journeyman License.

During my Naval career, I served in multiple, progressively complex, engineering positions on nuclear submarines. Advancing from inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, resolving and repairing issues, and maintaining various auxiliary equipment and systems, I eventually trained and managed crews who performed that work. We tested, maintained, and repaired the submarines and submarine support facilities’ nitrogen, argon, propane, AC&R, oxygen, gray water, black water, seawater, freshwater, potable water, DI water, plumbing, hydraulics, atmosphere control, Fairbanks Morse 8 1/8 Diesel Generator, and other associated systems in a high-stress environment. As the highest Quality Assurance rating, I ensured that all work was compliant with the US Navy Quality Assurance Programs.
