Network Operations - After completing an 18 month apprenticeship, my current job role within Virgin Media is a Network Engineer covering a range of duties which include carrying out repairs, optimising and upgrading the HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coxial) network providing a fantastic customer experience of the services they subscribe to. Within my responsibilities, I'd strive to improve efficiency and keep costs under control, with forward planning when it comes to projects and upgrade & optimization work to the network. Other duties would be to ensure the safety & security of street furniture and the equipment inside them. Finally, ensuring remedial maintenance checks are up to date to comply with regulatory obligations. Also responsible for 24/7 operation covering out of hours support for emergency restoration of services.

Completed the company's first ever national apprenticeship scheme gaining an NVQ qualification. After the initial 18month apprenticeship, I stayed on and migrated into a residential team as a Service Technician. My role was to visit residential customers to fix and resolve any issues they'd reported with their service(s), whilst delivering customer service to a high standard. I would also carry out installation work for new customers and existing customers upgrading their services and/or adding an additional set top box.In other duties, I would carry remedial maintenance work to Virgin Media's network structure, ensuring that any cabinets that were reported being open, were closed and secure.

I worked in a demanding role that required me to answer calls from customers that had experienced problems with the equipment/devices they'd purchased. I'd ask questions surrounding the fault and find ways to resolve. If I couldn't or if a part was required I'd then book an appointment for a technician to attend to replace and parts that were required.

I was also given extra training which enabled me to build and prepares bicycles that customers had purchased and/or pre-ordered. Also apart of my duties was to continually stock take along with checking off stock as and when the store had deliveries.
