As a bilingual (English-Spanish) Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) student at the University of Queensland, I have advanced knowledge in understanding, measuring, and changing human behaviour. Having graduated from the Queensland Academies Creative Industries campus with an IB 44 (ATAR 99.75), I have a demonstrated creative spirit and passion for helping others. In my tertiary education, I was awarded a UQ Merit Scholarship in recognition of outstanding academic, community service, and personal achievements. My passion for clinical neuropsychology began as an interest in human rights law. I value each individual's right to respect, as highlighted in the APS Code of Ethics. However, I realised that in my potential work as a lawyer, I would be working against systems that may not be changeable for a significant period. Meanwhile, people need immediate support. Keeping my knowledge of these systems in mind, I shifted my focus toward working with individuals who have experienced adverse life events, especially traumatic brain injury (TBI), and helping them thrive within the limitations of our public health and political systems, while advocating for patients rights within these systems.I am a Research Assistant in the School of Psychology at UQ, looking at the neuropsychological predictors of return-to-work after TBI, and a Patient Services Officer at the multidisciplinary health clinic iHealth Centre. In my PSO role, I work frequently with patients experiencing acute distress, including where medical and psychological comorbidities are present.I am passionate about healthcare, and am especially interested in exploring how interdisciplinary teams of professionals can address health issues. This includes the roles of social workers, psychologists and public policy professionals to improve health outcomes for the broader population, as well as doctors, allied health professionals and health support professionals who address individual patient concerns. My particular interest lies on the border between neurology and psychology, leading to my career aspiration of clinical neuropsychology. However, I remain open to other pathways including social work or public health.I am open to volunteer and work experience, and would encourage you to send me a message! I will get back to you as soon as possible.
