Driving delivery of Shell’s digitalisation ambition by transforming upstream subsurface data utilisation through strategy development, data governance and operational execution to establish a standardised data ecosystem. Focused to deliver enhanced business insights, enabling AI / machine learning, cost and resource efficiencies. Responsible for developing the cloud data migration strategy, setting and applying data quality standards, incubation and cloud migration of data and digital tools across Shell’s major exploration and development assets globally. Leading a distributed team of technical experts in seven countries (and 10 different locations), working across exploration, development and well engineering data products. Working in close collaboration with business asset teams, IT and 3rd Parties to ensure seamless execution.

Led the integration of all upstream technical data of the BG Group following Shell’s corporate acquisition, maintaining business continuity and compliance. Main responsibilities were to develop and execute a data integration strategy for all exploration and development technical data from 27 countries in the BG Group into Shell. Required close collaboration with multiple asset teams, lines of businesses and external service providers to ensure data across the globe was prioritised, sequenced, prepared and available in Shell data systems on time to support business decisions.

Delivered safe operations in complex, high risk, changing political and regulatory environment leading to clear commercial decision. Led the end-to-end planning and execution of the venture, delivering the first unconventional operations in Turkey, in close collaboration with Turkish Petroleum, the national oil company. Developed the exploration and appraisal strategy, managed the full spectrum of technical, operational, commercial and regulatory dimensions, delivering on budget and on time.

Led an integrated team of 20+ subsurface specialists delivering technical evaluation of unconventional assets, supporting new business development entries in Europe, Ukraine, North America and China. As Venture Manager for Unconventional Exploration in South Africa, led the integrated technical and commercial evaluation and regulatory licensing process.

Introduced the integration of non-technical risks (political, regulatory, environmental and societal) in business decision making to avoid a key source of delays and budget overruns. Set up a new team and risk-based framework for screening, assessment and mitigation of non-technical risks for Shell’s global upstream portfolio, working in close partnership with complex, high profile, high risk assets and business opportunities. Combined strong external sector awareness and stakeholder engagement, with the ability to bring together technical, commercial and non-technical disciplines to work closely together in project design and execution.

Led and supported commercial deals up to USD 100 million, including farm-ins, divestments of assets in the Middle East, Central and South East Asia. Responsibilities included valuation, marketing sales transactions, due diligence, negotiations, sales completion. Led competitor portfolio evaluation to assess global acquisition opportunities.

Led integrated technical and commercial teams to identify subsurface business opportunities in Russia and develop commercial bid strategies, economics and obtained business approval to enter negotiations and licence rounds for new business development. Led scoping, tendering, negotiations, contract awards and management for seismic, drilling and logistics services. Delivered first exploration licence applications in onshore and offshore Russia. Led geographically dispersed multi-disciplinary teams, built strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, working across organisational boundaries. Developed and executed global technical data digital strategy for exploration, including establishing data governance, resourcing strategy, capability building and procurement of external subsurface technical data, tools and services.

For Shell’s joint venture upstream business in the Netherlands (Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij): wide range of roles including leading and supporting delivery of subsurface evaluations and field operations (seismic and drilling), commercial procurement (geophysical acquisition), joint venture data management and the integration of non-technical risks in business decision making (eg through noise and ecological impact assessment, compensation claims). Led business transformation in subsurface technical services to support improved production and cost reduction. For Shell’s major exploration and production assets across the globe: led technical assessments and supported procurement of subsurface tools and data systems.
