Job coaches with Easter Seals work directly with students with developmental disabilities in their place of work. The summer STEP program places students in businesses throughout the St. Charles area and they are assigned a job coach to be with them as they learn their new jobs. Job coaches assist, but do not do the work for the student. They are there to guide, provide support, give advice, and provide direct physical assistance only when absolutely necessary. As time goes on, the job coach steps away and does more observational work rather than support. This past summer I had the pleasure of working with four wonderful students who made immense progress over the course of the summer. I am extremely proud of how far they came from when I first met them!
