The Dev Ex (Developer Experience) team at Flick is responsible for ensuring the security, reliability, and scalability of the Flick platform and supporting our engineering team to develop and deliver code fearlessly and joyfully. While a lot of our work involves Dev Ops and management of our infrastructure using Terraform/Docker, we also try to empower our teams to be as autonomous as possible. In addition to my responsibilities as an individual contributor within my new team, I remain a People Lead.

In addition to my responsibilities as an individual contributor within the Enable team, I took on several direct reports. I'm responsible for the part of their management that doesn't come under the remit of their squad lead, which entails regular 1-on-1s, goal and objective-setting as part of our performance review process, career and personal development, etc..

I work within a close-knit squad of developers within a wider Product and Engineering team of ~25. We steward the subset of services within Flick that could most readily be described as "back-end", including those responsible for ingesting data from external sources, rating customers' power usage, and managing billing, invoicing, and payments. I joined the then newly-formed Enable squad in December 2021. During my time in Enable, we solved some really interesting challenges as a team. These included a long-undiscovered solar rating and billing bug, and a novel feature empowering the payments team to handle direct credit reconciliation more efficiently.

I have been part of a fast-growing team of developers responsible for the development and delivery of an online ordering/sales-enablement platform for Shuttlerock's innovative creative solutions. I have worked on the whole stack, front-end to back, using, among others, React, Typescript, Ruby on Rails, and Postgres. My day-to-day responsibilities have been software development, managing quality of the platform, and release management.

Migrating data from third-party application back-ends

Managing, training, and supporting a small team of first line support staff and handling escalated issues. I was involved in the recruitment of the team, and their day-to-day management.

In my first job after graduating, my duties involved taking support calls from customers and resolving their application and operating system problems. Also, going to customers' sites to install & network computer systems, troubleshoot technical issues and train users in use of company's proprietary software.

I worked for BT Exact at the Adastral Park campus in Ipswich for the industrial placement portion of my degree programme.In the second part of the year I was part of a team responsible for ensuring BS7799 Unix security compliance across a number of Unix platforms used to manage the national digital telecomms infrastructure. Formerly, I was part of a team developing Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures to enable reporting and management on and of those same Unix systems.
