The only thing I love more than solving problems myself is developing and empowering others to solve them. As the engineering manager over the CMP, Electroplate, Solvent Cleans, and Wet-Etch Process Engineering teams, I am not only leading talented process development engineers and technicians, but I am also leveraging my IT and software engineering background to create systems and dashboards to improve the cadence of problem solving across the entire engineering organization.A few things I have learned about myself over the years:-All except our most technical problems have already been solved, just not necessarily for our niche fields; The hard part is applying the correct amount of abstraction in order to make the solution applicable to our situation. You should have seen the looks I got when the change control board realized I re-designed an anti-reflective deposition process to optimize the extinction and absorption coefficients all thanks to a pastry chef on TV.- My ability to predict future failure mechanisms and error proof them before they occur has been one of the pillars to my career success. Being able to instill this value in others keeps me coming back every day.- If I find a problem and try to ignore it, I won't be able to sleep.- If I ever become the smartest person in a room, I've failed as a leader.- The day I stop being comfortable with (controlled) failure is the day I will start tolerating mediocrity.
