About Adam Johnson
I work in waste and recycling. It's what I do at the moment, but perhaps not forever. I want to work where my gifts can be brought to bear. Not necessarily the change the world, nor even to change those around me, but to peel away the layers to that I might be the best man I can be. That can then ripple out to benefit those around me and the world at large. As I stand at this point in time, my gifts seem to be a talent for seeing the world and expressing its poetry. For hearing the music that sings on the tides of time and for reading the patterns that emerge. I tend to think broadly and draw on many influences. I do not claim to be an expert in anything, though am experienced in recycling, and am (hopefully) sufficiently open minded to hear divergent views. That said, I am but human and will sometimes find myself in a cul-de-sac of past conditioning. The thing that first got me into environmental engineering was the reunification of Germany, seeing the work that needed to be done to heal East Germany. I was most interested in so-called "soft engineering", using nature based solutions to resolve environmental problems. I had believed I would work in a blend of catchment management and permaculture. The Fates had other plans, and so I ended up working in waste. The first half of my career to date focused on landfills, and then recycling. I'm now being called to return to my roots in landscapes and permaculture. If all goes as I dream it will, the second half of my life will be given over to healing landscapes and healing people. This is regeneration, doing the true work of an environmental engineer with humility. I love that this space is so rich in learning, so able to be done without any need for government or corporation intervention. It's truly good work, truly no regrets work, where more whole landscapes and people create a more whole world. You might see me exploring ideas here. If I reach out to you directly, I'm really keen to learn from you. If you disagree with me, I'd welcome a discussion. I don't really think that truth sits with anyone, including experts, but rather in the space between where people bring their own unique perspectives to a discussion.Thank you for reading this far. I look forward to future chats.
