I worked on local government issues and communications strategies. My policy research ranged from state revenue sharing to scrap metal legislation and other issues. In addition, I proactively sought out initiatives that clients might want to pursue (e.g. Next Century Cities, Wyland Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, grant funding, etc.).My communications responsibilities included coordinating communications content and other community materials for clients, and I helped grow the City of Westland’s Facebook audience from 3,900 fans to over 4,900 – more than Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Ann Arbor.

Following my policy internship in the Canadian Parliament, I worked for my state senator in a similar policy-oriented internship. I also worked more directly on constituent casework and state issues.

I worked as a Customer Service Associate for part-time seasonal employment during the summer and winter as a part-time second or third job.

As a policy intern for the Member of Parliament Ryan Leef (Yukon Territory), I served as the aide to the Chief of Staff and worked on a variety of policy and communications tasks. This experience provided me with a better understanding of both Canadian parliamentary government, the Canadian-American relationship, and America’s international image.

I created DemocraCity.org to provide a better platform for citizen engagement in local elections and community issues. While pursuing my bachelor’s degree and working other jobs, I managed all tasks associated with the site, provided voter registration, and hosted the first ever online forums for Mayoral, School Board, and State Representative races in Livonia.

I coordinated media interviews and authored briefing memos for the candidate, directed a team of three interns, and served as a surrogate to a candidate forum. I had the privilege of being a member of a team that set a Michigan Supreme Court race record of over 300 media hits and 12 press endorsements, with the candidate finishing in first place in her race. I also worked additional hours fundraising, canvassing, and staffing events. I first developed my interest in attending law school through this experience.

I performed a wide array of tasks, including collection calls, member recruitment, and helping to organize networking events. I also gained exposure to a variety of local government and business issues.
