I am in my final year pursuing a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry under the mentorship of Dr. Martin Clasby in the Vahlteich Medicinal Chemistry Core (VMCC) within the University of Michigan's College of Pharmacy. My ongoing doctoral research is focused on conducting a structure-activity relationship campaign to optimize a small-molecule activator that restores SERCA2a's Ca2+ handling within diseased cardiomyocytes to fulfill the currently unmet medical need of a heart therapeutic that targets the molecular defects comprising diastolic dysfunction. Previously, I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from The Ohio State University, where I initiated and led synthetic and structural optimization strategies on a potential natural product-derived antidiabetic that showed promising preliminary biological activity, under the direction of Dr. James R. Fuchs.
