In my 10 year career with IBM I have contributed to open source projects up and down the Linux software stack. My first project was to assist with the bring-up of the ppc64 architecture on Linux and I still remember the celebration after we posted the first ever ppc64 boot log. Later, my focus shifted to virtual memory management and huge pages in particular. Libhugetlbfs, a library to provide transparent support for huge pages, was the first open source project that I have maintained. Its patented algorithm is still being used by HPC customers today. Once I joined the KVM community, I was able to show my versatility by implementing virtio balloon memory statistics throughout the stack: the kernel virtio driver, qemu's virtio device, a libvirt API, and in a dynamic virtualization host management application called Memory Overcommitment Manager (MOM). My latest projects include oVirt and Kimchi which are management applications for enterprise and entry-level KVM virtualization.
