About Adams Laborde

Project Manager, Agile Coach, Jira and Confluence guru, automation whisperer, and process wizard -- I help Agile software development teams make sure their processes work for them rather than the other way around. Engineers, PMs, and POs should be spending as much time as possible solving problems for the customer when they're not figuring out the next step in their journey of continuous improvement. I come from a background that couldn't be further from software development, having spent the better part of six years at UT Austin teaching German and studying Old Saxon prepositional semantics. But in studying linguistics, I gained an appreciation for the systematicity of Language, and of its study. I taught myself Python to build a rudimentary concordancer of prepositional phrases, and from there pivoted into my first tech startup as an engineer at Umbel, helping clients import and structure their data in our tools so that they could make better use of our product. It was there that I gained an appreciation for the kind of teamwork and collaboration that was often lacking in academia. Working with brilliant people to keep finding new and better solutions to problems each day is addictive, and I've carried that forward through my various roles as I've shifted from teaching, to customer facing implementation roles, to project management and Agile coaching.Since I arrived at AlertMedia we were a few teams of two or three developers working together in one Jira project, shuffling tickets from sprint to sprint. Now we're dozens of developers, PMs, and Project Managers working across multiple Jira projects and Confluence spaces of various types. My team has built and manages over 100 automation rules that help keep the process of managing Jira out of the way while allowing each team's individual process to drive how it's represented in their tools, rather than the tools driving their process.
