I worked in APAC, Global, then Europe and covered both finance and IT aspects of the solution.I also worked as a barristers' clerk for a number of years and managed a law firm of around 50 employees. Along with Damien Lumby, I led a constantly changing team of 20-30 people in an ambitious IT systems documentation project. I wrote a number of articles myself but was more generally occupied organising the team and reporting to upper management.This was a 6 month temporary contract and I am grateful to Elaine Chee for giving me the opportunity and leverage to achieve what I did.

In consultation with the board I was responsible for identifying and managing all areas of the chambers including staff, premises, plant and marketing. I was the hub of the chambers through which everything was controlled. I also liaised with solicitors and their secretaries to take bookings and make arrangements; judges and associates for various court arrangements; and other barristers and clerks in relation to all of the above. I controlled the finances and did all the bookkeeping myself.

Starting as a committee member, moving rapidly into VP and then President, I spent 5 years doubling the size of the club and professionalising it. We put on a large number of very successful events. We introduced some quite attractive club-member-only deals on tyres and other things. Branding and merchandising were also increased.Of course I did it for the love of the cars and the culture but there are transferable things to be learned from putting on events and marketing a club.
