I managed a team of approximately 20 investigative reporters and producers who generated daily content, assisted other digital departments' projects, and produced 12 hourlong investigative documentaries for Fusion's broadcast and digital series "The Naked Truth." In consultation with Fusion executives, I was responsible for hiring, assigning, budgeting, and line editing for investigative digital stories and packages.

I was the chief reporter responsible for domestic and national security coverage on Gawker, one of the 100 most-visited global websites. I founded and ran Fortress America, Gawker’s main “insecurity” blog. Responsibilities included daily content production, project planning, and advising editorial managers. I edited other writers and helped manage the daily publishing schedule and social media presence. I experimented with institutional voice, content framing, and social promotion to maximize impact.

Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area

I helped create Fusion's digital presence, and I managed multiple simultaneous projects related to the launch of The Morning Show, the station's live-air showcase program. On a regular basis, I worked under serious deadlines to set editorial priorities for The Morning Show and the Fusion website. I attended executive and editorial meetings, briefing management on planned coverage and digital strategies. I worked closely with counterparts at ABC News and Univision News, seeking to maximize content and traffic opportunities. I helped manage a team of reporters, videographers, editors, and producers to yield high-quality, humorous, and shareable content both for live broadcast and web publication. I wrote scripts, segments and served as an important partner to The Morning Show's executive producer in meeting content and audience goals. After relocating, worked as a contract editorial consultant for Fusion's morning show.

Ensured active, vibrant, traffic- and impact-promoting presence on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and other social media properties. Created high-impact, high-traffic-potential content, with a special focus on explainers and similar blends of reporting and curation. Supervised social media team. Worked closely with the editorial, tech, and public affairs teams to select stories for promotion, develop targets and approaches, generate social media content, and curate MoJo’s social media voice and style. Stayed on top of current trends in social media, generated regular ideas for improving MoJo’s presence and impact. Kept abreast of news cycle and tweaked social media and other promotional tools to get maximum visibility for MoJo stories and personalities. Coordinated daily social-media strategy, capitalizing on bicoastal opportunities for strategic outreach. Used analytic tools to track and promote social media accomplishments and winning strategies to build on and replicate successes. Founding editor of Mother Jones' highly successful Tumblr.My reporting on the Trayvon Martin Killing and US gun laws was recognized as part of Mother Jones' 2013 Online News Award for explanatory reporting and its 2012 Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Chi Award. I contributed editing to David Corn's Polk- and National Magazine Award-winning expose on Mitt Romney's closed-doors "47 Percent" remarks.
