In September 2015, I joined HSBC as the Programme Director for the digital transformation of HSBC’s Commercial Banking Direct Channel (HSBC Connect), and led the initiative which drove the replacement of one of the world’s largest channels for Corporate Treasury payments, handling approx. 8 Trillion USD per annum. This began with a competitor analysis and internal operational efficiency review leading to extensive market research and the shortlisting of emerging technologies, progressed to RFP’s and vendor shortlisting and selection, instructing a new-to-bank preferred supplier together with all of the legal and commercial negotiation and procurement. I lobbied at senior level for the 5-year investment necessary to deliver the solution which included the rollout of new infrastructure and cloud-based platforms, new vendor supplied applications, launching new online and API-based services, migrating existing clients from the legacy platform to the new one, and changing the IT Operating Model. The programme involved approx. 300 staff in 3 core locations (UK, India, China) with an annual budget of $25m per year. As part of this programme, I sponsored the shift in the IT Operating Model to more Agile Ways of Working – with the teams following Scrum and DevOps principles – and I am familiar, comfortable with, and actively participate in Agile Ceremonies: Backlog Grooming and Sprint Planning; Sprint Cycles; Daily Standups; Sprint Reviews; Sprint Retrospectives.As of January 2021 I have headed up Project Operations (incorporating Portfolio Management, Demand Management, Business Management, Project Assurance, Recruitment and Onboarding, plus People, Communications and Talent Management) for Business Banking UK. Alongside this, I have been overseeing the establishment of several global delivery workstreams as part of the Commercial Bank’s drive to improve Customer Self Service in line with it’s competitors and deliver operational efficiency benefits.
