After starting out with a customer service job and ended up in retail management. After my school days I worked my way up the ranks becoming a Store Manager with McDonalds and then Liquorland at various locations. For me over this time, putting aside all the sales, wages, budgeting, P & L’s, etc. managing stores meant managing people and learning more about those who become part of your team, their backgrounds, values, cultures, ethics and then together building what you always hope to be a sound, responsible and helpful team that will go above and beyond for your customer. It was after a while however my love of sports took me from Retail into doing a Sports Management degree at ACPE studying varying subjects such as sport & marketing, sport recreation & the law, governance and policy, leadership in sport, however it was sport and media that I wanted to pursue when I had graduated. An opportunity led me to Sky Racing learning from the ground up through tape and replay ops and presentation and gained a great understanding of ‘live broadcast’ and all aspects of being in a live environment nearly 24hrs a day. It’s here where the attention to detail, communication within teams, critical thinking and putting into place disaster recovery that really became the skills needed to succeed. It was then after a few years with Sky an offer came up to work as a Producer at TVSN, and I jumped across to home shopping and producing television across 13 live hours a day. A role I relished and went on to later become a Senior Producer/Sales Manager for TVSN. Understanding your customer even through a TV screen was paramount, along with working within Control Room teams, working with On Air Presenters and guests, partnering with buying teams and also managing client expectations after all it was their brand you are charged with selling to a hopefully captive audience. Throughout my career it’s been a combination of differing roles that have helped me to wear different hats giving me an understanding and knowledge for HR and policies within, basic payroll laws, Health & Safety also being a Safety officer at multiple work places. Still a long way to go and looking forward to new opportunities arising and being able to use my experience and capabilities across different fields for the future.
