I was happily busy in my PhD research when my supervisor introduced me to "Return On Science" (An NZ national research commercialization program, focused on bringing new research to market). After a rigorous process, the project was selected as a candidate for commercialization and later evolved as APIMatic.**What Is APIMatic?**APIMatic is a developers experience platform for APIs. Companies create APIs, we take them to developers by providing everything needed to consume the APIs. In other words, if you have built an API then we'd provide Documentation, SDKs, Code Samples, Assisted Authentication, Test Cases, CI/CD integrations - and keep them updated if the API changes. APIMatic's Code Generation Engine emits code in a variety of languages, which saves API companies from hiring developers, technical writers and testers for every single language. APIMatic is currently being used in +194 countries of the world. **Why APIMatic?**In line with Marc Andreessen’s “software is eating the world” take - developer tools companies, building tools to make software developers more productive, are riding a new wave. This wave is driven by increasingly sophisticated APIs which enable rapid creation of software. Why should we care? While not as sexy as consumer, we are seeing real success stories with highly technical developer tools startups. Focusing solely on the API space - we have Twilio and Stripe, valued over $63 billion and $95 billion, respectively. Why Twilio’s been immensely successful? They took a great care of "speaking their developers language" while the devs use/integrate Twilio APIs. Imagine a similar kind of developer platform available to hundreds of thousands of other emerging API companies? What if that can be built without having a big team in-house. I worked on a research based project during my Master of Engineering. The title of my Thesis was: "Bit-Streams-ToolBox For MATLAB"In the thesis, I demonstrated development and implementation of a library of bit-stream elements in a GUI environment - Simulink (a tool for model based design). That gives the advantage of using bit-stream elements in conjunction with a large number of existing continuous time Simulink elements. Thus, all sorts of new or existing system models, supported by Simulink could be tested under bit- stream environment. The focus of the study was on the bit-stream implementation of building blocks for Fuzzy Systems and Artificial Neural Networks.The outcome of this research activity opened the doors for the simplified bit-stream implementation of complex, real time systems, which has been a daunting task with other techniques.
