This project focuses on observational cosmology. We are trying to see the emergence of the Universe’s first stars about 13 billion years ago. In particular, we look at data to help commission and calibrate the HERA and MWA radio telescopes using a combination of advanced data analysis, instrument characterization, and computation.

This project centered around calculating updated yield values for detonations over water which would take into account energy losses due to the shock wave's interaction with the ocean.

I worked on a film scanning and re-analysis project whose goal was to digitize all of the United States’ nuclear test films and re-analyze the videos with modern technology to determine better yield estimates. As I was looking at the films for fun in my free time, I discovered visual evidence of water entrainment in detonations over water, wrote a technical paper on my work, and presented a poster at the summer student poster symposium where it won first prize in the weapons and complex integration division.
