Communications And Media Specialist
Perth, Australia
It was an honour to fill the first communications role at Government House and to help build its marketing and media strategies from the ground up. Over five years, I served three Governors of Western Australia (Sanderson, Beazley and Dawson). It was a career-defining opportunity to work closely alongside each Governor as a vice-regal speechwriter, and to draft messages and forewords on their behalf for a variety of publications. In the same role I identified proactive media opportunities and developed communications plans to educate the public about the role of the Governor, and the significance of the heritage-listed Government House domain. My duties and achievements included:• Creating the establishment’s first communications strategy.• Maintaining and evaluating the strategy, and creating related external communications action plans.• Overseeing all communications material in support of the vice regal program and office.• Writing speeches, official messages and briefing material for the incumbent Governor.• Managing the website, including copy and content writing, video and image uploads, SEO, and assisting in the build and launch of two new websites for the establishment.• Managing all social media channels, including launching the establishment’s Facebook page, and the creation of all related internal and external social media guidelines.• Coordinating all media, including identifying proactive opportunities, preparing media releases, event management for media calls and handling of all media queries.• Preparing video scripts and overseeing production of interviews for the Conversations at Government House series.• Preparing the annual report - from drafting, proofing and approvals through to final design.• Developing the establishment's first corporate style guide.
