At the Institute of Cancer Research, I conducted research on two impactful projects that resulted in publications in renowned scientific journals. Microenvironmental Niche Divergence Shapes BRCA1-Dysregulated Ovarian Cancer Morphological Plasticity: Studied 514 high-grade serous ovarian cancer samples to investigate the influence of microenvironmental forces on cancer cell morphology. Integrated spatial statistical analysis, omics data, and clinical information to reveal a significant relationship between morphological diversification and dysregulated DNA repair, loss of nuclear integrity, and increased disease mortality. Notably, discovered that morphological diversification was associated with poor prognosis in a subset of patients within the immunoreactive subtype, despite increased lymphocytic infiltration. Published in Nature Communications. Biopsy Variability of Immune Infiltrate & the ImmunoSkew Score: Developed a novel virtual biopsy method to investigate lymphocytic infiltrate variability in 998 breast tumors. Found non-linear increase in concordance between biopsy and whole-tumor scores with increasing biopsies, with HER2+ subtype exhibiting highest variability. Introduced ImmunoSkew score as a quantitative measure of spatial variability, predicting disease-specific survival in HER2+ subtype independent of standard clinical variables. Published in Nature Scientific Reports.These projects deepened my understanding of cancer biology and its impact on patient outcomes.
