- Analyzed how applicant race, ethnicity, and nationality have been used as the basis to repeatedly detain, deport, and subordinate disfavored groups in the U.S. immigration system using FOIA data. - Resulted in the publication of two reports in partnership with Human Rights First which were distributed to the Department of Homeland Security to campaign against the expedited removal of asylum seekers- Cleaned and produced visualizations of hundreds of thousands of data points in Python using the pandas and seaborn packages, linking demographic and geographic variables to the results of bond appeals and credible fear review requests- Utilized predictive modeling and developed novel metrics to help quantify judge bias in asylum decisions; performed a literature review, utilized techniques in language processing, machine learning (counterfactual analysis), regression analysis, and data visualization in Python.- Contributed to publication, “Bias, Consistency, and Partisanship in U.S. Asylum Cases: A Machine Learning Analysis of Extraneous Factors in Immigration Court Decisions” which won Best Paper at the ACM Conference on Equity and Access in Algorithms, Mechanisms, and Optimization, 2022- Research cited by NPR
