The Heart of Europe is developing 6 islands within the World Islands based in Dubai. My role is to manage the Marine Life Science Centre and oversee all marine related issues as the marine biologist. My role is to manage the Marine Life Science Centre and oversee all marine related issues as the marine biologist. Currently this department has 15 staff members including commercial divers, maintenance divers, seascapers and aquarists as well as a team of 12 building artificial reefs. Our facilities include 8 display aquariums, 2 outdoor tanks and a coral fragmentation facility of 16 ‘runway’ tanks.Main duties:- Supervise and manage the staff members working on different projects- Coral nursery maintenance and monitoring- Oversaw the development of an aquarium and coral fragmentation facility with the capacity of 20 000 coral fragments- Maintain the Floating Seahorse Villas including underwater display of artificial reefs and attracting fish- Artificial reefs: design, construction, deployment and monitoring- Organise and oversee all environmental studies conducted including Environmental Impact Assessment, Marine Baseline survey and Hydrodynamic and Flushing studies- Mitigation of environmental impacts from construction using foam barriers and silt curtains- Respond and assist with any emergencies or spills in the water- Establish oyster beds and seagrass meadows- Breeding program to increase the number of appealing species like seahorses and bamboo sharks Show less
