Being the principle Software Configuration Manager for a team of software developers, I am responsible for the build, package, deployment, configuration and release of over 50 intergration applications. I have worked with this team from its project infancy, implementing standards, processes and tools to reach its current mature state. In my work, I adhere to a number of key principles.Build: Practicing Continuous Integration methodologies, I specialise in using Nant and Cruisecontrol.NET to create an efficient, predictable, repeatable builds which are scalable. Packaging: Specialising in packaging Windows applications, I am an expert in using Windows MSI technologies to extend the build process to package client or server applications. Deployment: Deployment should be simple, repeatble, and predictable. With my expert MSI packaging, the deployments can be gated or automated (eg: Continuous Deployment). Moreover, installation values are dynamically set at install time - not statically included.Release: Releases should ensure that all changes are adequately documented, tested and included. Checks to be undertaken to find changes which are unauthorised/incomplete and these should be evaluated.Branches: I work with teams to ensure that the branching strategy is clear, easily maintainable, and can accomodate customer requirements.
