•Derived novel numerical methods and algorithms for simulating chemical properties, based on quantum mechanical principals.• Implemented these methods in C++ following an object-oriented strategy with shared and distributed memory parallelism.• Utilized profiling tools and optimization techniques to tune code performance resulting in a method capable of treating previously untenable problem sizes.• Integrated these methods into Q-Chem, a large commercial software package, maintained integration tests, provided support, and contributed numerous ancillary fixes and additions to this codebase.• Applied these methods at a massively parallel scale (1000’s of cores) to perform practical research.• Extensively employed python to process, analyze, and interpret large datasets of simulation results.• Detailed the resulting novel chemical insights as well as methodological details in numerous scientific publications and presentations.• Succesfully defended PhD thesis.
