Naked Energy has developed an innovative hybrid solar technology generating combined heat and power. I manage the engineering, technology, research and development activities for the business.

Co-founded MMV Sense, a technology start-up company developing wearable sensors, web and mobile services targeted at health, fitness and wellbeing. With funding from a regional grant, we developed Activity4Charity, an online health challenge, which links companies’ CSR initiatives with employee health and engagement. Launched in 2012, over 40 companies.

Provided technology and engineering consulting to US and UK based companies, in strategic planning, interim engineering management and investment due diligence projects. Most of my work was in technologies using advanced materials or nanostructures at surfaces or interfaces e.g. PV solar, semiconductor processing, solid state lighting, catalysts. The work.

Responsible for long term product strategy, IP management, development of applications for advanced silicon devices and management of customer joint development programmes. Spent a year living and working in California, working closely with the other internal product groups (RTP, epitaxy, thin film) and customers on process integration.

Took over as Acting GM, after Implant Division closure was announced. Moved back to the UK to manage site closure and transition the division into a service business.

Functional head of the high current engineering group, including product design, beamline physics, automation, applications, product management and marketing. Managed a team of 70-90 engineers, designers and scientists, annual budget approx. £15m. The products my team developed generated over $1bn of revenue (over 5 years), and made us global market leader.

Led a team of 10 physicists and engineers to develop a new low energy ion beamline. Project included concept and feasibility studies, hardware design, performance and reliability qualification, marketing and beta site support during field introduction.

Hired as process engineer and then promoted to Apps Lab Manager, managing of 8 engineers. Responsible for process development, customer demonstrations, new product qualification, production quality control and installed base process support.

Plasma Technology, a division of Oxford Instruments, manufactured plasma and ion beam processing equipment, for etching and film deposition applications, supplying a range of industries. I worked in the process and applications group and also managed UK and EU funded collaborative R&D projects.
