Sole trader, property maintenance and landscaping works. After being wholly involved in the technical aspect of designing and constructing 2 purpose built 74 place child care centres I had acquired the necessary tools and equipment to design & construct child oriented playscapes (Australian Building Standards soft-fall compliant designs) and landscaping works. Deciding that I would enjoy some outdoor physical activity I commenced this business venture. After some initial success in the commercial world opportunities narrowed to domestic works such as home maintenance. Without the backing of a landscape supply business it became apparent that the available margins did not support the on-going maintenance and operating costs of plant & equipment and I liquidated my available assets, as a result.

A business created with my then wife, Kiddiecare was a purpose built built 74 place childcare centre built in Ipswich, Sth East Queensland. With prior experience in childcare operating conditions and market principals a decision was made to invest $3.1m in developing a selection of Residential A properties into an urban renewal project.After undertaking our own market research, properties were identified as being potentially economical, finance sourced and development commenced. With the prior experience of a similar valued project I proceeded with the project. Due to a glut in the local project market I was unable to source a qualified project manager on time & within budget. Ultimately, I assumed responsibility as Project Manager and Principal Contractor . Responsible for local government liaison, budgeting and sourcing of material and construction of works the project was delivered under budget and time-line to the complete satisfaction of the financier, ANZ Bank.The business provided me with a great insight into the lives of ordinary people and the very real concerns which can impact on their lives.

A role which I will always reflect upon with real happiness and professional satisfaction. This was a position was a 'filler' between my own business plans. Building on my exposure to the community services sector in childcare and the vocational training industry it was an immensely rewarding experience. Mentoring and pre-audit preparation of community based NFP disability services in response to the Qld DSQ Service Standards I became exposed to the very real needs and attributes of this section of our forgotten community. At times this required difficult and careful cut-through conversations with some community members in educating them about a new emerging world of funding and governance requirements.

Having built a business on Approved Early Childhood studies (VETEC Registered and a substantial Dept of Vocational Training contract holder) and having also developed my own curricula learning materials a decision was made to put teaching into practice. Logan Central Children's Community on Wembley Road, Woodridge was built with a private investor and institutional funding. Using my own technical background, I authored the necessary Material Change of Use proposal to Council and supervised construction of a $2.8 project. Constructed on time & within budget I then went on to co-manage the business until it was sold. Author and proponent of Material Change of Use, consultant to design and construction. Owner operator.

Member of the East Coast work team linking an extensive network of agricultural dealerships with Nth American and European factories to build agricultural machines to client specifications. Also a member of the October $100m sales team.

A member of the Port Operations team. Port Ops being responsible for the tenure arrangements of the Fisherman Islands Development Area including major stevedoring operators such as P & O Ports and Patrick Stevedoring. Authorised Officer, Transport Infrastructure Act 1994. Sole representative on the Visiting Nuclear Powered Warship Committee, Brisbane also responsible for the interpretation, collation and reporting of Port Performance data during the Waterfront Reform Commission among other responsibilities.A frequent representative of the Port Corporation at Vice-Regal and Military ceremonies I am quite comfortable in mixing with people from very diverse backgrounds & the appropriate decorum required of these situations.
