I was promoted and took on responsibility for the Underwriting team in Winchester, as well as the EDI and Implementation Teams in Poland. I also combined two of the teams, meaning I was now responsible for running the Milton Keynes office as well as managing and developing 6 teams, totalling 35 staff, across 3 sites (including offshore). Extra responsibilities were creation of lines of business (questions sets), software configuration, EDI processing in its entirety, and development of Ratings schemes and Insurer Hosted Pricing integrations in the Ratings software, a cloud based Underwriting quotation engine that is insurer/software house agnostic.A restructure during February 2021 meant me and many more management layers were stripped from the business, resulting in redundancy.

Open GI acquired TGSL in August 2017, and I continued to be responsible for running the Milton Keynes office as well as managing and developing the 4 teams, totalling 20+ staff. The second manager left the company, and I was promoted and now solely responsible for managing the Milton Keynes office. I restructured the office into dedicated teams to better utilise skillsets and deliver more efficiently through ownership. This meant I was managing and developing 4 teams, totalling 20+ staff. Responsibilities included managing the teams that were ultimately responsible for maintaining and developing new Underwriting Projects for Insurers, MGA’s, and Brokers, as well as Customer Support and processing of EDI. I was also involved in the Project Management for new developments of Schemes, Documentation, Bordereau, EDI, through XMLOutcome, Polaris and TIC (The Insurer Cloud) quotation engines. I also took on managing of MID processing as well as some of the existing EDI in the newly formed Managed Services team.

Retirement left a vacancy for someone to manage the office and, alongside another applicant, I was successful in my application and promoted. With the advent of the original Sprintgrace, now Brokersoft, team being made available, based upon positive industry reputation Transactor Global Solutions Limited (TGSL) sought to hire 4 of us to create an underwriting team. Here I also maintained and developed insurer schemes and data and was involved in bringing the personal lines general market schemes to the Transactor software. I was also heavily involved in improving and re-writing the quote engine and moving from VB6 to VB.NET.

I was head hunted back to Brokersoft after acquisition by Cox Holdings Plc purchased what was left of Brokersoft. My role remained as it did previously. Cox also had their own quotation system, Brokersure. In January 2003 NMT, whom I previously worked for, had funding withdrawn by the insurance market, and as a result were also acquired by Cox. Brokersoft and NMT then worked in the same building for two years, until ultimately Cox decided to cease all their quotation software endeavours and thus Brokersure, Brokersoft and NMT staff were all made redundant.

Brokersoft liquidated in 2002, and I sought employment at this similar company, where I was employed as a Product Team Lead. I managed a team of 10 staff developing and delivering insurers personal lines schemes to the general market, as well as being involved with EDI.

A company that provided brokers and insurers with personal lines insurance quotation software and an administration system. My primary task was to build new and maintain existing insurer and broker schemes for each monthly release cycle. This is where I first obtained my insurance and underwriting knowledge. I also analysed, designed, developed, debugged, built, and tested software to improve both staff and customer productivity, including a completely new in-house development tool for controlling all aspects of schemes, as well as integrating Polaris schemes in to the Sprintgrace administration system. Sprintgrace liquidated in 2000, and transferred all assets to the new company Brokersoft, for whom I continued to work for.

I was responsible for maintaining stock of fresh foods by placing orders on an IBM RS6000 stock control system. This involved counting stock against computer records and correcting, as well as overriding/confirming suggested stock orders. Sometimes it was necessary to liaise with other stores to swap stock around to ensure correct levels.
