After articles with Ernst and Young and qualifying as a CA(SA) and CIMA, I spent 5 years in a family manufacturing business building cold rooms and commercial refrigeration equipment before joining the fishing industry in 1999 when starting at Kaytrad Commodities as financial manager. There followed 25 years of never boring involvement across all aspects of the South African fishing industry, from overseeing the financial side of trading in tuna, hake, squid and loose fish to managing and growing a squid business in the Eastern Cape, structuring and optimising hake longline and pilchard joint ventures with multiple small rights holders, investing in and running a community based trawl operation in the Northern Cape to in 2018 becoming chair of the South African Squid Management Industrial Association (SASMIA) and attempting to engage with the Department of Fisheries over the introduction of small-scale fishing in the squid sector. Have been through multiple Fishing Rights Allocation Processes (FRAP) over the years, some good and some bad - hope the latest one was the last for me.MD of Ukuloba Kulungile Investments which is a 100% black owned staff empowerment company which started in 1999 and has built steadily over the years despite the odd setback. Hoping to list that on a niche exchange soon as the next step in its growth path. A former treasuer of Youth For Christ and currently a trustee of Learn to Earn, my faith underpins everything I do - without God nothing is possible! Looking forward am busy with an exciting new project with my wife in developing Give App / Give Community NPC which will revolutionise the informal sector and support charities and communities in responding to crises and will be launching Social Compact NPC too to focus on building communities and helping us all pull together to break the shackles of poverty and reduce the inequality gap!
