I am an animal welfare specialist who, after 26 years in the computer industry, took the opportunity in 2020 to re-train for the career I had long wanted to pursue. I now work for one of the UK’s largest animal welfare organisations where I help both cats and the people who care for them every single day.I am a widely experienced individual who brings a lot of benefits to any organisation. After 7 years as a professional archaeologist, I re-trained for a year in preparation for a transition to the computer industry where I then had a 26 year career working for 2 major manufacturers in a variety of technical roles. As well as becoming a technology subject matter expert, I acquired project management, technical writing, team building, marketing and presentation skills.I am a Level 5 football referee and have officiated since 2009 in several leagues in South East London. Refereeing is a tremendous challenge and exercises so many useful faculties from decision making to communication skills to resilience and much, much more. It also enables me to contribute to grass roots sport, an activity I feel is important to the health and well-being of so many people. The game needs competent, experienced officials at all levels.I have volunteered for a local animal shelter for over 4 years as a Home Checker. I help to facilitate the successful re-homing of dogs and cats in the final stage of their journey to their new homes, ensuring that the environment they are heading for is suitable and that the new owners are adequately supported. I have also used my cat welfare knowledge and expertise in my volunteering work for Cats Protection before I was employed by the charity.
