Through a collective impact model, we incubate new ideas, advocate for policies, and fund effective strategies that address the root causes of homelessness and help ensure our region’s most vulnerable residents have stable housing. As the Homelessness Prevention System COVID-19 Program Manager, I manage the Emergency Rental Assistance program responsible for coordinating with over 20 partner agencies to administer $57 million in federal emergency relief funds to residents struggling from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, through rental assistance and direct client assistance (cash grants).When hired in July 2021, my top priority was to build out program capacity to increase the volume of applicants and expedite the timeline for application approvals before the expiration of California's eviction moratorium expiration on September 30, 2021. In September, the City of San Jose and County of Santa Clara opted into "Option A" and agreed to consolidate our local program with the State of California. I completed my contract in December 2021 to wind down our local program and our team achieved distributing over $42 million to 4,100 households.
