Senior Public Health Program Associate
Research program coordination for quantitative and qualitative aspect of Environmental Scan of Georgia for all topics related to HPV vaccine, HPV infection, and HPV vaccine uptake. This project, funded through the Winship Cancer Institute and National Cancer Institute, aims to gain an understanding of the barriers and facilitators to HPV vaccine uptake and HPV infection prevention. As Project Coordinator, I was primarily responsible for the management of a team of research assistant who aid in the research and preliminary analysis as well as management of internal and external relations with project stakeholders. In this role, I have conducted outreach to community partners throughout the state of Georgia in efforts to plan and recruit for focus groups of diverse populations. Along with managing all aspects prior to conducting the focus group, I also was responsible for facilitating 30+ focus groups throughout the state in efforts to uncover the barriers and facilitators related to HPV vaccine uptake. Focus groups were conducted at various levels of the community with parents, school leaders, community leaders, religious officials, medical doctors, adolescents and young adults. As project coordinator I drafted, edited, and finalized all focus group discussion guides while also assisting with various other research projects in the department. I aided in the development of various survey research tools, in-depth interview guides, and the preliminary steps of web site development and creation. Outside of data collection tool development and the facilitation and analysis of focus group discussions, I’ve conducted policy level reviews, literature reviews, proposal development and editing, and aided in the development of study design and creation.

My research is focused in on an assessment of LGBT stigma and institutionalized homophobia in Kigali, Rwanda and how those two factors affect LGBT population's health seeking behaviors; in particular, how it affects their risk for HIV/STI transmission. While working with PSF I am responsible for conducting in-depth interviews (IDI's) with key informants and respondents throughout Kigali. This project will culminate with the presentation of a final report and summary and the data collected will then be analyzed and utilized as an aspect of my graduate Master's of Public Health Thesis.
