Assistant Professor
Postdoctoral Fellow
Researching the role of conventional hydropower in a grid with increasing variable renewable energy
Postdoctoral Fellow
I study the effects of changing disturbance regimes on permafrost hydrology in boreal forests. In this research, I use a physically-based hydrologic model (SHAW) and inversion-based parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis methods to understand and predict surface energy and water dynamics. I am working with an interdisciplinary team to integrate SHAW with the landscape succession model, LANDIS-ii in order to better understand ecohydrologic feedbacks in the boreal forest.
Nsf Igert Fellow And Phd Student
In my Ph.D. research, I used data science and hydrologic modeling methods to improve our understanding of climate change on snowpack in the western U.S.Links below highlight some of my research products, as well as an article about my work that appeared in National Geographic and an interactive data visualization tool I created to communicate results.
Graduate Student
I researched relationships between hydroclimate and human behavior in wilderness areas and produced climate change adaptation publications for forest landowners. Topics of study included: hydrology, water resources, interdisciplinary environmental sciences.
Graduate Student Researcher
I assessed climate adaptation and mitigation options for private forest landowners in California. Synthesizing this information, I produced documents for forest landowners in order to communicate climate science and strategies for adapting to climate change in forests.
Education Support
I developed curriculum, observed educators in the field and provided feedback on teaching strategies, and developed and delivered trainings in cultural competence to educational staff.
Field Science Educator
I taught environmental sciences and personal growth skills to students (ages fourth grade through high school) through team-based scientific inquiry projects and exploration of the natural world in Yosemite National Park. I collaborated with classroom teachers weekly to develop and deliver educational programs to meet their learning objectives for their students. I also led multi-day and multi-week backpacking trips for middle and high school aged students, incorporating environmental science lessons with backcountry travel skills.
