As a Lead Care Center Counselor, I streamlined patient care through the use of Level of Care assessments on patients who presented to the hospital either via voluntary or involuntary basis. My role included gathering clinical information, recommending a level of care program, and completing the admission process into the programs. Additionally, I obtained pre-authorization with their insurance companies for their participation in the programs. For a month during my time with UHS, I worked with one of the companies residential substance abuse facilities in Wichita Falls, Texas working in the utilization review department. I worked directly with insurance companies to advocate for patient needs and days in the treatment facility.

As a QMHP-CS with the Intensive Support Team at MHMR of Tarrant County, I work with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, in order to reduce the number of hospitalizations with the least restrictive and least costly types of service. IST provides intensive family and community based treatment that addresses the many needs and obstacles to clients who have been unsuccessful with traditional methods of mental health treatment. The IST approach sees clients as a part of a complex network of interconnected systems that incoporates the individual, family, and community factors.
