Many times, for the Help Desk, the customer is the business. Sometimes serving the customer means making tough decisions. Clear and concise communication is key to making sure that everyone is on the same page. Process and policy improvement to find ways to make the team more efficient, to take what I have learned and use that to encourage new perspectives and ideas on how to look at the current status quo. Is the ticketing system efficient? Is there an inventory policy in place? How does your team check to make sure that they are all doing things in the same way? Do they feel confident in how to respond to repetitive questions? Is there a way to help the customer be more self-sufficient? The best thing about working for the Help Desk is the interaction with the customers. Solving their problems and discovering new ways to make their work lives better. The immediate gratification from solving a problem for someone is unbeatable.
