Dawn Samples is the World Languages and Partial Immersion Coordinator for Lexington School District One in Lexington, SC. As coordinator since 2004, Mrs. Samples recruits, collaborates and plans for all district WL initiatives. She provides professional development and support for all world language teachers of Chinese, French, Spanish, German, Latin, Russian, and Portuguese including the teachers in her 7 dual immersion sites (in French, German, Spanish and Chinese languages). Mrs. Samples works with business partners, post-secondary institutions, other districts and teachers in SC and in other states to plan for and implement new WL programs. In 2009 Mrs. Samples was part of the Chinese Bridge for American Schools’ delegation to China that was sponsored by the Hanban and College Board. She works closely with the SC Department of Education and other post-secondary and professional institutions to plan for recruiting, training and certification of world language teachers. Mrs. Samples’ background as an elementary French teacher, consultant and graduate level WL methods instructor has been instrumental in providing experience, professional development and support to the programs and districts she works with. Mrs. Samples has served as the program director for Lexington One’s 2011, 2012 and 2013 Chinese Startalk programs for students. She served on the SCOLT board of directors from 2012-2016 and also serves on the NADSFL Board as networking chair. Mrs. Samples specializes in providing professional learning for universities, districts and teacher organizations on building proficiency in the language, curriculum development, programmatic planning and new initiatives implementation, best practices and instructional strategies for immersion and world language teachers and programs. She also serves as the host for South Carolina Educational Television's monthly television program "Carolina Classrooms," highlighting teachers, students and programs across SC.
