Brought over from VirtualTourist to be part of the founding team for Lunch.com, a new social media site (mix of user generated content/social networking)* Managed a small team consisting of one senior developer and one junior developer.* Worked with the vp of development on overall tasking and planning for the 10 person technical team.* Developed much of the core functionality, including: Content search functionality (Lucene/ActiveMq) Content based social networking (MySQL/Java). Caching architecture (Java Concurrency/Data Structures/Spring AOP) Integration with Twitter (Twitter authentication, automated twitter feeds)* Overall lead/architectural advisor for: Fans and favorites Member ranking Spring Security* Implemented testing, monitoring, and deployment infrastructure (Maven/Ant) and led the software side of the installation of the production system. * Handled some sysadmin, operational, and monitoring tasks and build engineer responsibilities (shell scripting). In general, filled in wherever necessary to make the startup work.* Helped the site grow from conception to 70000 unique visitors a month.

With VirtualTourist until the successful acquisition by TripAdvisor in July 2008* Primary responsibilities included work on the next generation platform that served as the basis for Lunch.com.* Introduced Spring, and automated testing infrastructure and deployment infrastructure.* Implemented security, fraud analysis, member ranking, contextual ranking, and prototyped a content based social network.* From December 2007, managed a team of 2 other developers.

Working with Hibernate, Spring, Java, and Oracle, massively increased the capability of the PortBlue platform to handle load, and added critical new functionality for internal and end users.* Conceived of and introduced an Eclipse plugin that provided rich editing capabilities for applications built on the PortBlue platform.* Led the effort to add refactoring and versioning capabilities for applications built on top of the PortBlue platform, including automated data migration and large scale editing capabilities.* Led the effort to redo the display and input functionality in our system, switching our primary mode of rendering to one based on XSLT and providing significant new rendering capabilities to end users of the platform.* Added the first AJAX features to the system, improving the ability of internal users to visualize the structures they were creating on the platform.* Implemented algorithm changes that increased platform performance by 60x in certain cases.* Added hosts of automated tests to the platform to enable safer development, from JUnit based unit tests to custom programs for confirming the validity of a new release.* Streamlined the release migration efforts, so a process that once took weeks was automated to occur in a few minutes with a minimum of hassle.* Responsible for architecting new DDL and DML for the system, along with the scripts to migrate data between releases.
