I interned with the LA City Attorney's Victims Program during my second year of law school (2015). This internship evolved into a full time position. I coordinated my efforts with the Los Angeles Police Department in assisting victims of crime. I screened and evaluated each case, collected data, information and evidence from the vicim of crime and sent their case to the board. Ultimately the board would qualify and give funds to the victims of crimes, directly. I collaborated directly with lead counsel, detectives and victims of crime, to get ready for trial.I facilitating travel for victims and provided emotional support during trial. I made court appearances with victims, attended depositions, restraining order hearings and participated in mediation sessions. I had the extensive opportunity of diligently representing victims in all fields of the criminal justice system. I participated in light investigation of various crimes through such activities as collection of physical evidence, coordinating appointments, and the interviewing and interrogation of suspects, victims, complainants and witnesses.I also helped victims of crime in filling out legal form, I-918, for Federal Immigration Status. I then proceeded to communicate with the detective that investigated the crime and ask the their participation in signing this federal immigration form to verify the victim of time had helped and cooperated with law enforcement against the defendant. Victims of violent crimes qualify to apply for citizenship but often have trouble getting their documents signed by law enforcement. Having a strong connection with the legal filed and law enforcement made it possible to get many forms singed.

I would call applicants at their personal number and kindly remind them that failure to turn in documents would result in the elimination of benefits, which could be a very emotional process. As a special education teacher I performed moderate to complex professional student services. There were days when the students had a generally good day and the schedule was followed. There were other days when there was an emergency in the classroom, due to a choking hazard, stroke, or physical outburst from a student.
